St Mary’s originally replaced their pews for stacking chairs in order to create a more flexible space. After living with the chairs for a number of months the church community really began to see the benefit of the new chairs.
"Although we have only had our new chairs (replacing Victorian pews) for a few months, the impact on the medieval church building of St Mary’s Reigate has already been very significant. As well as giving a much lighter and ‘airier’ feel to the church, the comfort and flexibility that the chairs have given us has already been put to good use with a variety of events reclaiming the church as a community space where life and worship intermingle."
