St Augustine’s, Highbury highlights how well the stacking chairs can work in a smaller parish church environment. As part of a complete renovation undertaken by HMDW Architects Ltd, 400 chairs were employed to give an elegant, clean finish to the newly refurbished church. What became really evident throughout this project is how a church floor can be highlighted by using chairs rather than pews.
The new versatility that the chairs bring to the main worship space has meant that local groups and organisations are now able to use the space in different ways. As well as music and theatrical performances, the space will also be used for pastoral activities such as the parishes Marriage Preparation Course. All these activities require different configurations of seating depending on the size and focus of the event. The chairs ability to move, stack and store quickly make it the perfect choice for such a venue.
